Jesus Christ is the way I am free today, with a peace and joy I have never known.  God is the head of my life, my family, and our home.  I am a new creation.  The old James is dead and gone.  I learned in an “Experiencing God” class at the Ministry that it’s all about God’s will and getting His work accomplished. I am excited about the future and where God may lead my family.  We want to be in His service, helping to establish His kingdom.  In order to assist with that, I was ordained into the ministry at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Batesville, Arkansas on August 23, 2009.
I knew that at some point God wanted me to give back what He has so graciously given to me.  The Lord called me to be the Director of Renewal Ranch “Restoring Broken Lives Through Christ.”    I have known what it is like to be in bondage and also what a freedom there is through Jesus Christ.  I want others to know my Lord and Savior, and to experience His love and the peace, joy, contentment, and freedom He provides. I want other men to have the same type of opportunity that was afforded to me at no cost so that we may learn to serve God, family, and community, and to live an abundant, victorious life.  I am so excited for this opportunity and to see and be a part of what God is doing at Renewal Ranch.
Jesus is waiting….all you must do is seek Him and you will find Him.  I thank God for His grace, mercy, and longsuffering.

After graduation I was given the opportunity to move back to Renewal Ranch and to serve on staff.  My wife and two sons now live with me on campus so that I can oversee the daily lives of the men. It is amazing to watch God’s hand at work daily and the way in which serving others has in turn allowed me to lead my family. I went from being so distant from my children to praying with my seven year old son at the altar, as he asked Jesus Christ to become his Lord and Savior. As new men come to Renewal Ranch I am able to relate to what they are feeling and to share the hope that I have found. We truly serve a God of Restoration and I praise Him for letting me give back in a small way and show my children that living for others is far more valuable than living for yourself. I hope that when my children watch me work at Renewal Ranch that my actions teach them to put God first in their lives, others second and self third.

After battling a 16 year addiction, and successfully destroying all relationships of the ones that I love the most, I finally realized that I was not living the life I was created for.  I was broken financially, spiritually, mentally, and physically.  My addiction had exhausted me in all aspects.  As a father of two wonderful children, I submitted to the fact that I was not the father and man that God has called me to be. After coming to the Ranch, I began to feel a peace, comfort, joy, and purpose that I had never felt before.  As my relationship with Christ began to grow, I soon knew that this was where I needed to be.  After graduation, I was blessed with the opportunity to continue working on staff.  Being able to walk alongside the men that come to the ranch, to see them grow, and gain the peace and joy that God freely gives us all is an awesome sight to see.  God has blessed me with a purpose to serve selflessly and to become the father and man that He created me to be.  I am forever grateful to Renewal Ranch for pointing me to the One who saved my life so I could live it glorifying Him.

Renewal Ranch Graduate of Phase I and Phase II has been moved from a Bunkhouse Supervisor role on Phase I campus to Phase II Supervisor position at the Phase II Apartments. David states  ‘I am both humbled and excited for the opportunity to continue in this ministry. John 13:35 says " By this shall all men know that your my disciples, that you have love one for another”. Having received God in my life at 24 years of age I never thought I would find myself a disobedient and hopeless man at age 56, needing assurance of my worth to God or anyone else. Through the ministry of Renewal Ranch and the love of God’s people my relationship with Him has been restored in a mighty way! Foretelling Peter’s denial of Him, Jesus said in Luke 22:32 "when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers”. I now consider that my calling in life and am grateful for the opportunity. In Christ, David Armstrong’

Bunkhouse Leaders

As part of their continued recovery and leadership development, we choose and use a few Phase I graduates to provide leadership in each of the 3 bunkhouses. Normally they serve for 3 to 6 months.

Shop Mechanic

The shop mechanic helps maintain RR vehicles and equipment and when possible provides mechanical services to people in need at low or no cost. Currently a graduate fills this role as part of his continued recovery and leadership development. Eventually we hope to have a part-time or full-time employee in this slot.
